MetaNotes should be part of every meeting or event.

there is product to be developed around this usage.

imagine people watching a TV broadcast and taking live notes together on it.

if we develop this product we can count on tons of content forever – we will be the ultimate complement to any and all broadcast media and human assembly.

our mobile applications will be key

http://m.metanotes.com should be awesome

you should be able to quickly add notes to a space one after another (any space via a dropdown)

take note, submit->fresh note screen, take note

back back next back back easy navigating like a slideshow

create new space, take note, submit->fresh note screen, take note

all appears on the space when you log back in to metanotes.

remember the MEEBO deal with SXSW-i ???

we can be that for the entire world of meetings and events.

every single event everywhere should have its metanotes page.

it’s like upcoming gone totally notelike.

this was the gigpatrol vision.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-25 19:51:04

what was gigpatrol ???

gigpatrol was a domain name i registered around the same time as metanotes.

basically, go to a gig and take notes on it and post reminiscences after the gig.

think of this events usage as “opengigpatrol” about any event.

the BIG TEST will be DEFCON

we will be the notetaking service at DefCon.

if it works the way i think it’s going to work, our ascent into the coding essential toolkit and thenceforth into the mainstream is utterly assured if we rock DefCon.

email to metanotes would be nice

that way you could just ask people to forward their notes to an email address and all of their notes would enter the same page, providing a great group overview of everyone’s notes without everyone even being a metanotes member.

imagine an INSTRUCTOR OVERVIEW.

if you had a classroom full of students, you could see their notes as a “river” or as separate refreshing windows to represent each student in the class.

this software has such a view:

Redianet Class is a networked program that allows an instructor display its screen and other multimedia contents, observe and act on all the PCs of the class and let the students collaborate with its companions showing, sharing and acting on the PCs of the group. Redianet Class offers instructors control over classroom PCs so that they can guide, monitor and organize the class from their own PC.

In this way, they can make the most of the local network without having to resort to cables or additional devices such as screen projectors and VCRs. Instructors can thus use tools to show their screen to the class, show films and guide their students. The evaluation version of Redianet Class is fully functional. However, after 30 days of install, the functionality will be limited to broadcasting the screen of the instructor to the whole class, an effective software-only substitute for a screen projector.

NOTIFICATIONS ARE CRITICAL.

I just realized that they ought to be two way.

That means, when someone accepts my invite, I should get a notification that they’ve arrived.

it should work like an IRC-enabled software dev app

checking in and checking out.

this is an interesting metaphor for “presence” as we will understand it on METANOTES.

a user’s PRESENCE is defined as:

  • the user’s username
  • the space on which the user last operated
  • the time at which the user last operated
  • the operation conducted by the user
  • the content of the operation conducted
    • for instance, the note title and body if the operation was “created a note”
  • the context of the operation last conducted
    • for instance, “the note was a reply to a note by otheruser

when you enter a space, you are present there.

when you enter ANY space, you are present in general and should be easily summoned by your friends.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-26 07:06:28

this is because

it’s so important for new users to be welcomed.

when you invite someone on board, it’s awesome to know that and to welcome them.

it just makes sense.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 18:44:03

WHY TWO-WAY?

If they aren’t, they’ll show up and you won’t be there.

The whole point of ringing a doorbell is to get them to open the door. This means they open the door and you’re there.

But you might leave, right?

You might go to another tab, and be “there” but “not there”.

So you need to be pulled into the space even though you might have rang the doorbell from there.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 17:15:39

HOW THIS WOULD WORK

You’d invite someone to METANOTES.

They’d get an invite in their email.

They click the invite.

They are presented the “JOIN US!” imperative.

They begin an account.

You should be told, “welcome your friend to METANOTES” in your email/timelog/lowerleftstatusfeed/twitter

This should have a link to where the user is right now.
