tag-board features

BASIC TAG-BOARD FEATURES

  • Easy to use: just type your name and a message, then “Tag.”
  • Easy to install: just copy and paste some HTML code. You can have your own free message board set up in 30 seconds flat.
  • Works in all modern browsers: Internet Explorer 4+, Netscape 4+, Opera 4+, Mozilla, AOL.
  • Works on virtually any web site, blog, etc.
  • Safe: HTML tags are automagically disabled and rendered harmless.
  • Multi-language support (Unicode).
  • Profanity Filters You have the option of enabling profanity filters that will eliminate most known profanity, including some in other languages. With Tag-Board Enhanced, you can add your own custom words to filter as well.
  • Smilies Tag-Board.com has 18 smilies, most of which are available in 256 different colors. With Tag-Board Enhanced, you can add your own custom smilies (or other images) to be loaded by the trigger of your choice.
  • Alternating Background Colors This new feature simply adds a new way to integrate your tag-board into your web-site color scheme.
  • Bold, Italics, Underline Add some formatting to your posts with bold ..., italics ..., or underline .... You can use more than one at a time as well.

TAG-BOARD ENHANCED FEATURES

  • Clone Prevention Prevent users from posting with a name that is already in use. This feature will keep people from imitating other users on the board.
  • Archives You can now keep 5000 messages in an archive. Visitors to your site can view these messages by clicking links at the bottom of the board.
  • Customizable Smilies Add your own images, (with their own triggers), or replace ours.
  • Customizable Profanity You can add your own profanity list, to supplement or replace ours.
  • Email/URL Recognition Any Email addresses or URLs that are posted in your board will automatically be converted to links.
  • Time Zone Control You may now set the time zone of your board to any UTC offset, e.g. EST is -0500. Keep in mind that most time zones experience Daylight Savings Time, which will require a change of the UTC offset e.g. EDT is -0400.
  • Reserved Names You can protect the names of the users of your tag-board, so that only people you want to use a name may. However, in order to post from a protected name, a user must have logged in to the Admin Panel for the board.
  • Auto-Refresh When someone tags your board, it will automatically refresh in your browser and all of your visitor’s browsers, letting you chat live with your visitors.
  • Custom CSS Files If your CSS skills are up to the task, you can completely customize the look of your tag board with your own custom CSS file.
  • Timestamps See when someone left their message by simply hovering your mouse over their name.
  • Custom Tag-Format More customization lets you show off your creative talent. Format each tagged message however you want with the name, message, timestamp, and other parts of the tag. HTML is allowed here.
  • Headers/Footers Put some text at the top and/or bottom of your Tag-Board. This can include HTML as you see fit.
  • IP Viewing and Banning You can block unwanted visitors from continuing to deface your website. This option also includes an inproved ban technique with an algorithm that will not be revealed. This improved ban can also usually prevent a user from posting even if (s)he has a dynamic IP address. It is also unlikely to block unintentional visitors.
  • Increased Message Length You can increase the length of each tagged message to as high as 100 messages with 1000 characters each. Talk longer and see older messages.
  • On-Board Post Deletion A red ‘X’ will appear next to messages on your board (if you have logged in to the Admin Panel). By simply clicking this X, you can instantly delete the message without logging in to the Admin Panel.
  • Flood Control Stop spammers and other individuals from flooding your website. Prevent anyone from posting more than once every so many seconds. You set the control; you get the power.
  • Remove “The Link” You are no longer required to have a link back to tag-board.com if you upgrade to Tag-Board Enhanced. It is your choice. You may let your users know as little or much about us as you like.
  • Support Further Work The free Tag-boards are expensive to run, and are a large drain on the developers to improve. Help us support new improvements (to free and Enhanced boards) by upgrading your Tag-Board to Tag-Board Enhanced.
  • Tag-Board Guarantee If within 30 days after upgrading, you decide that you don’t like your new Tag-Board for any reason, let us know and we will give you a 100% refund of your purchase price. There is absolutely no risk.

pbwiki for educators

  • ncrease student engagement using a safe online wiki. * Stop waiting for IT to make an easy-to-update web space! * Create a no-hassle way to showcase my students’ work online. * No IT required.

Create a wiki

1. Is it safe?
 2. How can I use a wiki?
 3. How will this help my students?
 4. Can I control access?
 5. How much does it cost?
 6. Why use a wiki instead of a blog or forum?
 7. Do you provide educator-specific materials?
 8. Why choose PBwiki over other wiki providers?
 9. What kind of help do you offer?
10. I want PBwiki for my entire school district. Whom do I contact?

Is it safe?

Yes. Choose whether to mark your wiki public or private with one click. (Either way, a password is always required to edit, so outsiders can’t change your wiki without permission.) And since educational PBwikis are ad-free, your students won’t click through to other sites unless you explicitly add links.

How can I use a wiki?

Here are some ideas. A wiki might be perfect for you if…

  • You’re tired of waiting for Brad in IT to help set you up
  • You want to increase student engagement using a safe online wiki
  • You’re tired of complicated solutions that nobody uses
  • You want a no-hassle way to showcase your students’ work online
  • You want to eliminate excuses of lost homework
  • You want a central place for your group to collaborate
  • You want one place to put your files and thoughts so you can access them anywhere
  • You want a partner to share best practices on collaboration

How will this help my students?

As Mike Lawrence, Executive Director of CUE, noted: “When students write a paper, they’re usually writing for one person: their teacher. When students know their peers will read what they write, students care and they try harder.”

When you use a wiki, your students get a gentle introduction into online collaboration, and they’ll remain engaged beyond the classroom. Many of our educators tell us about their students getting hooked on PBwiki and editing it from home and on the weekends!

Karen Nelson of Vacaville, California says, “I use PBwiki as a website and a student resource. Today after school I got an email from a student asking for the password so he could add content. An hour later I got the wiki notification that the page had been edited by that student. This student has not completed one assignment outside of class yet this year. How great is that!!”

Can I control access?

Yes. Free wikis come with one password that you can easily share. Try writing it on your whiteboard!

Premium PBwikis get advanced access controls, which let you grant certain people editing privileges, while others are limited to reading. Premium plans start at $9.95/month.

How much does it cost?

Educational wikis are FREE to set up. Premium plans start at $9.95/month.

Why use a wiki instead of a blog or forum?

Blogs are great for one-to-many communication, such as one person writing about personal finance.

Forums are good for letting many users ask questions and letting many people answer.

Wikis are excellent for collaboration. If you want to let students collaborate, add files, suggest links, and create a document that’s comprehensive and up-to-date, use a wiki.

Do you provide educator-specific materials?

Yes! We offer videos and presentation materials especially for educators. See the right side of this page for links.

Why choose PBwiki over other wiki providers?

PBwiki is the easiest wiki to use. Don’t just take our word for it – see what our users say about PBwiki.

Brendy Sherry, Special Education Itinerant Technology Teacher says, “I love PBwiki because it’s a safe and easy way for teachers to get students collaborating. The interface it intuitive and easy to use and it leaves most of a teacher’s energy to focus on the learning and not the tool.”

What kind of help do you offer?

We offer email support and a thriving user community. See our support-services.

I want PBwiki for my entire school district. Whom do I contact?

tag-board feature wishlist forum thread 1

Greg Greg is offline Master of the Universe

Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Blacksburg, Virginia Posts: 4 Current Wishlist My current take on wishlist order of importance:

  • Rehaul the admin panel (Part 1)
  • Get the site to 99.9999999% uptime.
  • Something more interesting with banned users
  • Restricted Admin Accounts

I think I may move a couple of features from enhanced over to free as well. Some things that really dont add any server load:

  • External CSS
  • Post Format
  • Obscenity Filter Replacement Text
  • A single blocked user at a time.

I’m not so sure about this though, as it may upset people who may have upgraded to get to these features. And I’m feeling generous at the moment, we’ll see. Posts: n/a Smile Hello. Newbie here, on this forum.

I currently have a paid tag under another name. Can that account name be switched over to a new name?

Okay, so anyhoo, I was wondering also if there might be any image uploading to the tags in the future?

thanx so much Reply With Quote sandpiper #4 Old 12-05-2004, 01:40 PM Greg Greg is offline Master of the Universe

Posts: n/a New features request I’m a paid user of a couple of years and I can’t remember the last time we had new features.

I’d like to see an optional login required or something that can reserve screen names to users. I have a frequent visitor base and sometimes they like to speak for others.

speed of the tagboard code is important (and uptime)

Perhaps unique background colors for messages for each unique identity. Reply With Quote

a key phrase about collaborative writing

When students write a paper, they’re usually writing for one person: their teacher. When students know their peers will read what they write, students care and they try harder.

tag-board pro

TAG-BOARD ENHANCED MESSAGE BOARD

Tag-Board Enhanced is a more powerful successor to the original free Tag-Board. New features will leave your visitors gasping at your mastery of webmastery. With Tag-Board Enhanced, your Tag-Board will take on the power of a chat room with auto-refresh, of instant messaging with smilies, and of a higher end message board with timestamps and headers/footers. At a measly $20 (USD) a year, it’s practically free anyway, and there is no risk.

Now, you can also get Tag-Board Enhanced for Free by signing up for one of many advertisers offers such as using a free trial of AOL or registering for a low APR Credit Card.

Just fill in the form below to get started. By simply filling in this form, there is no obligation to buy, you can always back out. SIGN UP FOR TAG-BOARD ENHANCED MESSAGE BOARD :: STEP ONE

We need to collect the following information to set up your Tag-Board Enhanced message board:

  • Pick a username. This should be between 4-12 characters long that includes no space or weirdo characters. If you already have a Basic Tag-Board, you can use that board’s username
  • Pick a password (so you can change your tag board settings later) or use your current password if you have one.
  • Enter your email address.
  • Enter your coupon code if you have one. This will affect the initial annual fee of your tag board should you choose the payment route. If you do not enter a code or it is invalid, your annual fee will be $20 (USD) or you will need to sign up with one of our advertisers to get Enhanced for free.

After you do this, we will verify your coupon code if you enter one and let you choose your payment options. Then we will take you to a secure checkout page to collect payment information if needed.
