it prefigures twitter by a good ten yers.

john, just an unamerican fan, designed something i merely hinted at in this poo. if i had taken him seriosly, we would have inved blogger and twitter combined. the time log is tha karm acoming back home to us we hope.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 08:43:52

sararah / 2008-05-25 08:45:36

sararah / 2008-05-25 08:50:16

very generic house part guide

arties are fun. Or, at least, they are supposed to be fun. Throwing a good party takes a little bit of skill, especially if you actually want to be able to enjoy the gathering yourself. But if all goes well, a house party can provide hours of entertainment for guests and hosts alike – without resulting in disasters that will need to be dealt with the next day. Size Matters

When you think of a party, do images of a huge, out-of-control bash come to mind? Or do you think of a more private, slightly calmer gathering? Before you start inviting people, determine what kind of party you want to throw and how many people should attend.

Also take practical considerations into account. Even if you want to throw a huge party, you may not have the money, space, or tolerant neighbors necessary. The noise levels, the amount of food and drink consumed, and the potential danger of things getting out of control are directly correlated to the size of the party. Once you have settled on an appropriate size, start inviting people. Make sure to tell guests if they bring people with them, and if so, how many people.

If you really want to throw a large party but do not have room at your home, consider throwing the party at an alternate location. You might be able to rent a bar or restaurant for the occasion, although this will of course increase the cost of the party considerable. You might also be able to cohost the party with a friend who has a larger house. Pick a Good Time

A good party requires a good turn out. True, you may not want a huge party, but you still want people to attend. People are more likely to go to parties held on Friday or Saturday nights. Additionally, neighbors are less likely to complain about noise that occurs on these days. You should also try to make sure that your party does not conflict with other popular events. Be Courteous to Your Neighbors

A good party will create some noise – there is no way getting around this. To avoid potential conflicts, you should inform your neighbors that you will be throwing a party. If they now about the noise ahead of time, they will be less likely to get annoyed and call the police. You might want to invite your neighbors to the party, too. Even if you know they would not want to attend, it is always nice to be invited. Once again, they will probably be more tolerant.

You should also try to keep noise levels to a minimum, especially in the late hours of the night (or early hours of the morning). The music does not have to be so loud that you can feel it, at least not at two o’clock at night. If guests are yelling, kindly remind them of the late hour. Supply Entertainment

Sometimes guests will find ways to entertain themselves, but you should not count on this. You should arrange for various forms of entertainment ahead of time. Drinks and snacks will be expected. Music is also mandatory. You should also try to think of activities that are a little more interactive. For example, Karaoke or Twister could be a lot of fun, even though they are a bit cheesy. You could also chose a theme that all of your activities and decorations will match. You could even request that all of your guests dress in costume; costumes do not need to be saved for Halloween.

Don’t limit yourself to the above suggestions; they are just meant to get the ideas flowing. When it comes to entertainment, you should be creative. If you are able to think of something truly unique, you guests will remember the party for years to come. Be a Good Host

Once the party has started, your responsibilities are not over. You need to be a good host. Mingle with the guests and remember to introduce new people. Offer people food and drinks, and make sure that everybody has, or knows how to get, what they need.

If your guests are shy, you will need to break the ice. Start dancing, and soon others will follow suit. If you look like you are having a good time, others will be more likely to enjoy themselves, too. If you are throwing a large party, you may want to ask a friend or two to help with some of the more enjoyable hosting duties. Put Away All Valuables

You will not be a good host if you are constantly worrying about your antique coffee table, the Picasso you have hanging in the living room, or the urn that holds you beloved grandfather’s ashes. Put your valuables away before the party begins. That way, you will be able to focus on your guests and not you belongings. Be Responsible

A good party is a safe party. Assuming that you are an adult and that your guests will be adults, you will probably be serving alcohol. After all, alcohol is a great social lubricant, and people tend to expect it at parties. Just make sure that you are a responsible host.

When it comes time for the guests to leave, make sure that they have a safe way to get home. You can either arrange for a designated driver or you can make sure that people have enough money to pay for taxis. If a guest has been drinking and has no alternative way to get home, allow that guest to stay over for night. Have Fun

Very few parties are carried out without any problems. Most likely, something will go wrong, and things will not go exactly according to plan. However, if you follow the above tips and use a bit of common sense, you should be able to avoid complete disaster. So when the party starts to stray from your well laid out plans, just relax and go with it. After all, it is a party – have fun.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 08:51:06

nice

I love that. We’re unsure about how it’s going down yet though. We’re pretty sure it’ll have to be sometime next month? After the 21st and before the…29th. Because we are all going on vacation then. Er, and we are moving into a brand new apartment? Oh, I dunno. I guess we’ll figure it out sometime. Sarah’s better at these kind of things :P

sararah / 2008-05-25 08:54:56

yeah, maybe

we want to sort of do a part birthday/part time log celebration

Sarah’s birthday is going to be in July so we could throw a supah double birthday?!

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 08:56:42

meta

is probably my favourite site so far.

it’s about a thousand and a half times better than myspace and facebook combined because it allows me to make as many spaces as I want and do whatever I want with them.

I have been spreading the word, and handing out cards all over the place :D

sararah / 2008-05-25 08:59:43

well not LIVE live

if you click into the note (you know to edit it) and then hit tab it ought to refresh though.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:13:30

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:06:57

hey did you see the "quicknav" panel ?

lets you really use all four corner son your space as well as gives you a compas rose

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:05:41

see we are jUST GETTING STARTED.

imagine if myspace was this neat at the very getgo.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:07:21

oh man

I love how interactive this is.

It’s exciting seeing you create a note and then move it around and re-size

It feels more personal and fun

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:08:19

YAY!

I did it :D

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:14:15

wow

that’s awesome!! Does it have live update?

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:12:40

sararah says,

i cant fricken wait for this house party.

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:17:01

that is exciting

twitter + metanotes + timelog = AMAZING

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:18:25

john rarely uses it

poor john, he is put upon sometimes, he’s a special genius for sure. very very unique individual.

one of the best people the human race has to offer.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:14:53

and timelog

is bettah for messaging others

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:20:41

also,

manditron uses timelog for her journal ;)

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:21:00

yes there is.

its called the timelog. duh.

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:22:43

texting?!?!

i need to text the timelog. because i dont use my brain.

ever.

-sararah.

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:23:40

notetaking should work like twitter !

another duh.

like nobody thought of that ?

i understand not thinking about tagging, but this is like an idea that is so very basic that you would have thought a web service like this would have happened.

_ i wored at a startup called i-drive in san francisco once_ shit i could have mad that company so much moey if they had listen to me. john gives me ability to finally code the application of my dreas. i drive (1999) was ahead of its time but had a clunky, windows/linux-flavored user interface. i kept telling them that the killer usage for this was PHOTOS not just “storing my stuff”and this was way before flickr. oh well. now is my chance.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:23:02

ok ok ok, a "wiki"

but this simply better

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:22:39

uh, EVERYONE on twitter ought to use this.

one of the things we joke about is how METANOTES is going to be so much better known than (and so deeply integrated with) twitter that many newbies will think WE invented twitter !!!

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:16:14

WE MUST AUTOMATE THIS BADGE THINGY

it’s so damn EASY already

it should be a contextual menu item: “insert person”.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:19:24

twitter and timelog

are perfect companions. one is strictly public and the other private, they compliment each other perfectly.

sararah / 2008-05-25 09:19:20

so glad that is clear.

there are two distinct notetaking needs.

one is for the whole “whiteboard” thing – persistent notes, collaborate notes, long-term.

the other is for that oh shit i should quickly write that down kind of note.

it is amazing that we are in 2008 and there is still no great place to do this.

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:21:10

yes totally

it is the antidote to ADD, this entire system.

and there is more coming:

i just registered this domain “26projects.com”. basically you buy one of those address book moleskines and rather than using it for address, you define 26 projects on the inside cover that correspond to the letters in the guide.

in the notebook you write the following aspects of this project:

  • Project Name
  • Description
  • Goals
  • Requirements
  • Tools
  • Tactics
  • Milestones
  • Expected Results.

Then you transfer this information into 26projects and away you go !!! (haven’t built it yet or anything but will center on the time log).

sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:29:00

here's guy kawasaki's twitter for the heck of it

    sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:32:36

    A.D.D.

i think i have severe ADD.

    sararah / 2008-05-25 09:37:26

    understandable.

ugh. i have to work at 10 in the a.m. :(

    sararah / 2008-05-25 09:58:23

    NICE PERFECT AWESOME.

what else is there anyway ?

i guess you can set your blog entries to private ?

maybe we should target on myspace those users who have set their profiles to private.

after all it would seem that such people would like a free private journal.

    sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:35:31

    sararah

      sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:12:30

      Totally--->

      yeah, it’s sweet

      emery / 2008-05-25 21:02:01

      my friend eddie

        sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:37:41

        so about this party.

        Timelog Celebration/Double Birthday Party…

        when?

between June 21st and June 29th? or after July 5th?

        where?

        our apartment in Flag?

        sararah / 2008-05-25 09:47:58

        whoops i'm back !!!!!

time logged to everyone a bit

        sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:54:14

        sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:55:22

        that time has come again.

where sleep because necessary, and the fun has to end.

        goodnight!

        sararah / 2008-05-25 10:00:38

        john

          sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:14:25

i didn't know it'd be THIS EASY to paste twitter accounts into notes.

            sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:08:40

this twitter insertion stuff is freaking awesome.

              sonicsrini / 2008-05-25 09:34:07
