only user interface can save napster.
this is because
- i can listen to seeqpod instead of napster.
- napster needs me to pay.
this is also because
- iTunes has locked up so much of the market
- this may open up partnership possibilities for us
- walmart? best-buy? blockbuster?
therefore their only option is to outdo seeqpod.
seeqpod rules because it basically runs like twitter.
they have only a few vulnerabilities:
- they are illegal
- this means they repel “ethical” consumers
- or consumers who are paranoid of RIAA reprisal
- this means they can’t overdo it in the marketing like we can
- this means they can’t do partnerships
- this means they might wink out of existence
- they don’t have all the music in the world
- their organization of songs after the band search is sub-par
- it should be collaborative-filtered
- their UI could be better
- i think they’ve got a successful product and are happy
i think we can ignore all other competitors and focus on taking out seeqpod.
how can a paid service outdo a free service, even with superior UI?
- social features might be one way.
- investigate other “social music networks”
- if napster worked like metanotes, it would be amazing.
