this kind of thing is simply IMPOSSIBLE

almost nothing is real time like this.

sonicsrini / 2008-06-15 20:12:02

some metanotes defects we'll fix over time

it’s very hard to tell how many notes are on a space.

we don’t have a search prompt yet.

etc.

sonicsrini / 2008-04-26 04:43:19

Srini= excellent moral support

Megawatt79 / 2008-06-15 20:12:33

ok so where does ontology fit in here?

the reality is that i have been thinking actually obsessing about ontology for weeks now.

Megawatt79 / 2008-06-15 20:13:22

hi again !

do you see this ?

sonicsrini / 2008-06-15 20:11:41

why a "note-chat" ?

well this is a page to which you can (and of course should) add a note or several.

you can do this at any time, of course.

but it would be really interesting if we were on this space at the same time.

why?

because you’d see my notes popping up and moving around in real time.

like a ghost in the machine type thing – it’s so cool.

forgive the writing like this, i am still having a lot of trouble articulating just exactly what this is.

i figure if i can get it across to you then i’ll be better at expressing it to the world

sonicsrini / 2008-03-16 19:43:05

wow - cool username - very CYBER !!!

good luck on your finals !!!

sonicsrini / 2008-03-16 23:28:01

in anticipation

our first milestone is massive student adoption metanotes by the end of this year.

we can get there through:

  • value proposition – using METANOTES will help you succeed as a student.
  • brand – we are the rad notetaking tool.
  • viral marketing – everybody get on board.
  • pr – college newspapers, etc.
  • an amazing product
    • content
    • community
    • functionality.

sonicsrini / 2008-04-26 04:31:21

TAKE A LOOK AT THE PANELS

there is a little clock icon on the top right

click that.

sonicsrini / 2008-06-15 20:15:16

so how do you take notes?

i think i will do a survey about this, but most likely:

  • 50% don’t or barely take notes
  • 40% write notes on paper
  • 10% use a computer program, usually Microsoft Word

it could be a better value proposition to say “we will help you write your paper” rather than “take better notes”.

writing a paper is not optional like taking notes is.

Megawatt79 / 2008-03-16 20:36:40

there is still a LOT to improve

  • but this note-chat, collaboration thing… i think we have something special and am interested in conducting let’s call them experiments :)

sonicsrini / 2008-03-16 19:48:24

sonicsrini / 2008-06-18 03:22:07

hi meredith !

i am creating this space in anticipation of a “note chat” demonstration with you.

i figure if i can coordinate a successful note-chat with you here, i’ll be able to learn better how to convey what exactly it is we’re building here.

so i’m taking kelly out to get some moussaka. she is complaining for moussaka like she’s preggers or something, it’s getting like tourettes. she lost her job because she was “sick” yesterday. her poor mom just had brain surgery.

but we won this award. i’ll put a photo up of it here :)

sonicsrini / 2008-03-16 19:39:49

organizing and reviewing the notes you took

does this ever happen?

i mean outside of rarely or under severe pressure ?

if people took more notes, they still won’t fully benefit until they can easily review these notes.

there’s no good way of reviewing your notes.

“making cheat sheets” is the best i can think of off the top of my head.

metanotes makes it fun to review your notes.

sonicsrini / 2008-04-26 04:36:28

IT'S ALL ABOUT CATEGORIZING NOTES.

some notes have karma attached to them.

  • you need to make a whole sub-plan based on the info in that note.
  • you need to follow up.
  • you need to learn something.
  • you need to tell someone something.
    • and they need to acknowledge they saw it.
  • you need to create a new space based on a note.
  • you need to shop for something.
  • you need to remember a date.
  • you need to get help.
  • you need to remember this at a specific time.

you might not feel like tagging your notes as you create them – but you should the next time you go through.

we need to make it so easy fun and fast to tag notes that you’re tagging them all over the place and ambiently and it’s fun.

sonicsrini / 2008-04-26 04:40:16

this is one of many ontology opportunities.

how will ppl make sense of walls and walls of notes?

  • tagging
  • easy sub-page creation
    • it should be simple for me to take any one given note and use it as a root for a new space
    • these spaces should be linked together easily
  • i’m envisioning an interface similar to flipping through cd-covers on a newish iPod but with notes instead of covers

sonicsrini / 2008-04-26 04:38:17

how did you do ?

i’m eager to talk ontology so let me know when you get some slack.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-19 02:00:36

Good call, also why does IE not display Metanotes properly?

Megawatt79 / 2008-04-28 00:05:18

Well, now that Im back to just three classes, I am feeling more like my old self. Finishing that insane paper last Thursday, I realized the extreme short comings of delicious that you were talking about. I had 25 websites saved, with notes and tags and shit and it was like I couldn’t make heads or tails of them during the heat of writing. Next term there’s a 60 pager, and have learned my lesson so will use metanotes, for sure!

Megawatt79 / 2008-04-28 00:01:20

this is the award we won
