i'm going to define SYNERGY.

On the METANOTES system:

Circles racking up Accomplishments.

In a larger sense:

The whole achieves more than the sum of its parts.

h2 collaboration and education

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:33:53

METANOTES should engineer both.

networked computers must enable human synchronicity and synergy.

METANOTES was conceived to do this.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:28:18

Being able to ACHIEVE MORE...

is it really important to people ???

it sounds so generic

so we are going to have to brand it better.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:38:30

We really love synchronicity.

Synchronicity is when METANOTES comes alive.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:35:57

We can do this through a POINTS SYSTEM.

Points can be allocated for achieving goals.

A marketplace for these points can develop.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:44:56

Why is METANOTES a synchronicity machine ???

Because we have developed synchronicity like I have never before seen on the Internet or anywhere else.

And we are determined that you be among those who take part in it.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:36:46

But when people are taking LIVE NOTES ON EVERYTHING...

the Final Four

the season finale of some bs reality show

some celebrity’s downfall

a political miracle ends the war

we should be ready to help them achieve things together.

it will be a historic opportunity and we will not blow it.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:39:44

TEAM SPIRIT!

basically,

users form teams.

that is a new one in the social networking world,

and so obvious as to be genius.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:50:46

i'm going to define SYNCHRONICITY.

On the METANOTES system:

Being in the same space at the same time.

In a larger sense:

the effortless space/time logic that characterizes multi-node activity in a network over time as the network coalesces.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:30:56

what am i talking about?

on metanotes, synchronicity and synergy are the main values of our collaboration design.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 20:46:59

TEAM SPIRIT!

I am inspired by the Twitter Color Wars

how exactly?

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:46:19

MICROACHIEVEMENT

we should probably make it so that these achievements begin as small as possible.

they can ramp up from there.

obviously the circle should be in charge of what they endeavor to achieve.

but a group to-do list sounds like an awesome use of METANOTES!

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:43:12

building achievement into the system

mission

circles should have a mission

inventory

what can the members of a circle collectively do ? tactics, skills, resources, equipment, connections?

strategy

these missions should be outlined as a series of goals. in what sequence will the circle achieve the goals? what risks and assumptions are inherent?

projects

what projects will need to be initiated in order to achieve the goals and complete the strategy?

tasks

ultimately, everything breaks down into tasks and these should have “rewards” allocated to them.

econ / 2008-03-29 00:01:28

grasping this idea is hard..

until you are on metanotes with another human being.

until then it was just a curious idea.

it is a brilliant idea!

chrisruppel / 2008-03-29 22:57:50

what happens when people are in the same space at the same time?

it’s fun to watch.

You can see each others’ notes move in real time.

it is so useful and fun

they’ll get all their friends on it

econ / 2008-03-29 00:09:27

This was not something Twitter came up with.

This was Ze Frank’s idea.

this was a mcluhan like stroke of genius. people will be talking about the Twitter Color War for 1000 years.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:56:39

TEAMS get stuff done.

even if that “stuff” is fun insipid things like sending a specific tweet to a specific user at a specific time,

it is a new format for collaboration.

social networking is missing the gaming angle entirely. it isn’t just fun widgets in facebook. it’s building loyalty among users.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:52:01

EDUCATION without ACHIEVEMENT

may actually do more harm than good in the long term.

it’s very important that the next generation be educated super well. this is a key initiative for METANOTES.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:41:37

PRESENCE.

someone else is on this space and i don’t know who it is.

in the future, you’ll know who is on with you and you’ll easily be able to see what they want to talk about.

plus we will reward you for presence.

We want to make learning and communicating about ideas as fun as a videogame.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-28 23:53:53

another example of real-time collaboration

http://www.drawball.com/

Not nearly as productive, but the same synchronous principle

chrisruppel / 2008-03-29 01:10:30

what happens to the Record?

if a note is written about a piece of data that is no longer there, we have orphaned information.

can you take a snapshot of a space at a given time?

“we will need this later, let’s save it as is”

chrisruppel / 2008-03-29 23:17:32

what about dynamic data?

Since real-time is so crucial to collaboration, what about including data that updates within a note?

it doesn’t have to be crazy, but maybe just recognize the .rss at the end of a URL? then it could update every so often and the content would be fresh. it wouldn’t require any change of storage format

“normal link with text”:http://example.com RSS:http://example.com/feed.xml

perhaps a group is researching stocks, or keeping track of a blog or other news source that always shows up to date info.

even for more personal content, a user may desire content generated from a social network or video sharing site etc.

chrisruppel / 2008-03-29 05:07:00

i wish someone were here

because I have run out of thoughts :(

chrisruppel / 2008-03-29 23:39:13

fascinating !

i mean super cool!

but i don’t think it sync’s out live, if you draw and someone else draws you’d probably have to hit refresh right ?

not sure.

sonicsrini / 2008-03-29 19:21:34

upon reflection it isn’t realtime, but drawings will fade in every few seconds, no refresh necessary.

I’ve definitely had a sketchwar with another user who wanted to occupy roughly the same space!

chrisruppel / 2008-03-29 22:47:53

it's just like talking

people who talk to themselves are considered nuts

people who use metanotes alone will get bored quick and may miss the point completely!!

you need another’s input to keep thinking

chrisruppel / 2008-03-29 23:31:26

politicians are put there to distract you

it’s ownership that really matters.

they spend billions of dollars lobbying to get what they want.

they see a zero sum game.

they don’t want a population of critical thinkers.

that doesn’t help them, that’s against their interests.

they don’t even want you to know that you’re fucked.

they want obedient workers.

passively accept the erosion of everything good.
