it’s an iphone app too so you can take metanotes with you wherever you go if you have one of those.

I am your friend, I am an account on MetaNotes that will periodically leave you notes in your account, I am here to help you get the most out of the MetaNotes system :)

log in using the “t” logo on the top right of the screen!

• Invite your friends to a space when you are on there too.
• Their notes will pop up dynamically while you watch.

Textile makes it easy to add special formatting. Use the following conventions:

• create bullet lists with asterisk-space as a line opener
• insert images by bracketing the URL with exclamation points
• bold text by bracketing it with asterisks
• italicize text by bracketing it with UNDERSCORES (that’s shift-dash on your keyboard)
• to separate paragraphs, hit the enter key two times – textile doesn’t recognize “newline” with just one enter.

you can make text HUGE by starting a new line with h1.

you can make text less huge but still big by starting a new line with h2.

don’t forget the period-space for h1. & h2.

do it now if you haven’t yet.

find a blank area of space and double-click it. see what happened? a new note is created!!! just start typing into the SUBJECT line of the new note, and then hit return, and then start typing into the BODY of the new note. it’s a lot like writing an email to your future self.

• if you want to create a bulleted list in a metanote,
  • and i know you do…
• you need to know what an asterisk is.
• it’s the little “star” that shows up when you hit Shift-8 on any standard keyboard.
• If you begin any new line in a metanote with “asterisk” and then a space, this will begin a BULLET LIST automatically!
  • To make sub-bullets, enter two asterisks at the beginning of the line.
• It’s very simple once you get used to it!!!

you need to understand “hex” color code, like ”#ffff00=yellow” still. but it’s so easy… (make sure you include the # sign)

just click the “contextual menu” button on the bottom left of each note and select “color”.

this will open a wizard where you can change the text and background color of that note!

we wanted to subvert the dominant up-and-down paradigm.

• click it to “zoop” to the top left of the entire space!
• this is a quick and good thing to do if you get lost on a page or want to go back to the beginning.

You can click on the outer yellow border of the ad block if you want to hide it!

we made the left border a little bit thicker in order to make it easy enough to click on.

this way the google ads don’t get in your way after you look at them.

to create a note on this space just find some empty space and double-click. that’s it!

• Scroll WAY to the west and to the south !!!
• You’ll be able to create spaces with hundreds of notes on them.
• Click and drag the background to scroll around the space really fast.
• You can also use the arrow keys on your keyboard.
• finally, see that little arrow on the top left corner? click that from anywhere to return back to the top left of the screen.

• change the background of any space! just go to the Tools->Workspace Settings menu option and paste the URL of an image you want for the background in the Background Image field.
• surf into other people’s notespaces! just go to your People menu to see their lists of spaces.

to start a new space, just select “create a space” in your tools menu.

You see an image you want to see again and again, so you want to save it to your MetaNotes account! All right:

• right-click the image.
• select “Copy Image Location”.
• create a new note and title it.
• *type ”!” then “ctrl-v” then ”!”.

Here’s an example:

For a permanent image link, upload your image to a free hosting service (like photobucket.com) and embed the ‘direct link’ url into a note. Don’t forget to flank the link with exclamation points!

• If you’re reading this message you’re already getting a feel for the MetaNotes system and what it can do for you.
• MetaNotes consists of notes on very wide and tall spaces.
  • Double-click on the background of this page to create a new note.
  • You can resize, windowshade and close notes with the controls on the corners of notes.
• Explore the options in the menus on the top toolbar.
  • To go to your METASPACE, or list of spaces, click your username in the menu!
• You can click and drag the background to navigate around the wide space quickly. You can also navigate using your arrow keys !
• You can create a new workspace on any topic with your “Tools” menu.
• You can embed images by tighly bracketing the image’s URL with exclamation points.
• You can embed YouTube videos by pasting the embed code into a new note.
• Of course you can paste text from your travels around the Web into your notes for research purposes.
• And naturally, use MetaNotes to compose your own ideas and plans.
  • Explore other users’ accounts to see how THEY are using MetaNotes.
• Explore the other spaces in your account for more ideas about how to use MetaNotes. Over time you’ll collect so much information in your account !

you can change the background image of this or any space. you will need to find the image you want to replace it with first. just surf around until you find a background you like. then, in Firefox:

• right-click the image
• select “Copy Image Location”, which copies the URL of the image into your clipboard
• come back to this space
• go to the Tools menu and select Space Preferences…
• PASTE the desired image URL into the “Background Image” field of the Space Preferences wizard.
• Then click “Submit”, and then click anywhere else to make the wizard go away.

Click the icon on the top-left of any note to WINDOWSHADE that note – try it now !!! This saves you a lot of space and creates room when you need it.

Double-click anywhere on the background to CREATE A NEW NOTE. And hit TAB to save.

Enter the subject of the note first, then hit return, then start typing (or copy-paste something) into the body of your new note. Then you can slide the note all around the space, resize it, etc. You can have hundreds of notes on a page, and you have all kinds of space to fill up.

To create a NEW space with whatever name you want as the title, use the TOOLS -> CREATE SPACE menu option.
